Bookstore Assistant
Assists with the daily operations of the college bookstore; orders, stocks and sells new and used books, supplies, and other items; maintains appropriate records as required.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES*
Provides general direction and assistance to the bookstore operation; maintains textbook, supply and other inventories at levels adequate to meet the needs of the college community; assists with daily reconciliation of cash registers, maintains credit return files, participates in periodic physical inventory counts, sets up and maintains display cases; performs other general merchandising functions.
Coordinates the adoption and ordering of textbooks and all required course materials; supplies book adoption forms to faculty; stays up-to-date on current editions of texts; researches copyright, publisher and book information, including availability; communicates information to faculty, students and administration; places orders with publishers and suppliers; generates purchase orders where appropriate. Processes returns and resulting credit memos in a timely manner.
Places orders for school and office supplies, clothing, and miscellaneous items.
Prices products using predetermined profit margins.
Waits on bookstore customers; uses exemplary customer service and customer service initiatives.
Inputs all necessary information into the Point of Sale system.
Assists in the maintenance of the college’s bookstore web page.
Leads other bookstore support staff and call-in workers by assigning, planning, and organizing their work.
Performs other related tasks as required.
SUPERVISION – Works under the general supervision of the Director of Auxiliary Services.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate degree in business or related field
- One to three years of related work experience, or combination of education and experience commensurate with the requirements of this position
